Grade 10 music has been working on chimes and will have a performance this week for the elementary students. We are also working on instruments either piano or guitar. Students have been working on music theory reading notes, scales and note values.

I Wonder
Hello,
Students are working on an 'I Wonder' assignment. Students research, write and present on topics that they are wondering about. Each week, for the next five weeks they will present to the class their findings along with a visual aid. Speaking and listening is an important part of the curriculum. This project will allow for students to present on topics of interest to them. Ask your child what they are wondering about.
Journals (2500 words), and four reading reflections will soon be due. Students should have already finished between two or three books. There are many choices at the library and do not all have to be fiction. Some students may prefer information books or biographies. The purpose is to learn to read for enjoyment.
Please check homework hour as some students have not completed prior assignments.

Essays Due
Hello,
Students have been working on essays the last two weeks in class. This is a persuasive essay that has to have research to back opinions. This needs to be three pages in length and include a bibliography. On Monday, April 30th students need to be prepared to read their essay to the class.
At this point in the term students should have completed two books of their own choice. Journals should be about half way finished.
Yesterday the class had a presentation on drugs.

Parent Teacher Interviews
Hello,
There are parent teacher interviews Thursday, March 29th 6 - 8 and Friday morning from 9-11.
If you have a particular time that you would like to sign up for please email mail or sign up outside Rm. 7, I look forward to seeing you.
We have started a new unit on poetry. There is a major assignment due Tuesday, April 10th. This is a poetry anthology and will be a collection of 20 poems with specific instructions for each. This term there will also be a 2500 word journal, and four independent novels with reading reflections. I will update other assignments as they come due. There is time to work on this in class however, most students will need to read at home and some may need to write in their journals as well. This is a longer term as is worth more in the overall mark. Please ask your student about their assignments to be sure they are indeed working on these.

Assignments Due
Hello,
This has been a very short term, midterms begin this week. Grade 10 English will have a test on Friday, it will include a cover letter for a job application and also questions from the book that students read for their book club.
The usual end of term assignments are due on Wed. March 21st and includes two reading responses of books that students have read, 2500 words in the journal and also the project that students have chosen for their book clubs.
Each day students have time for reading, journal entries and time in class to work on book club assignments (other than the final project) and other writing activities. Some students may find that they are not able to complete this in class and might need to work a bit at home. If you have any questions about this please email me.

Students are working on a Top Ten project. This assignment covers many of the topics we have worked on so far in English. This assignment is due on Jan. 20th. Other assignments also due at this time are: four book responses, and 2500 journal words. Ask your child what they have chosen for the project and also how they are doing on their reading and journals.
Taking a bit of time to read or write in journals at home would be a good idea for some students.
